Richard Wheeler was born in Hollywood, California and has been involved professionally in art for some forty-five years as an illustrator, mural artist and oil painter. At present, he lives in Berkeley, California where he paints and also teaches painting to adults. For many years, Wheeler was involved in liturgical painting and graphics and was heavily influenced by Coptic and Byzantine icongraphy. Along with this, he combines neo-classical and impressionistic elements in his work, resulting in works that are grounded in the past, but are truly modern in nature. The subject matter of his work includes portraiture, figure painting, animals, florals and landscape. Oil painting is the primary base of his work. Richard Wheeler was educated at the Chicago Art Institute in the late forties and then again in the seventies. He has shown his painting in New York, Chicago and San Francisco and has been highly acclaimed as an impressionist painter. He has taught painting for some thirty years and has a reputation as an excellent painting teacher. |
